Flight nanny into Newark
For North Jersey and most of Central Jersey, Newark is the closest nonstop airport. The nanny carries the puppy in the cabin, never in the hold, and meets you at the airport the same day it leaves Arizona.

A Corgi puppy from our family home in Casa Grande, Arizona, reaches New Jersey on a nonstop into Newark or Philadelphia, depending on which end of the state you call home. Here is how the trip works, and what Jersey ticks, townhouse stairs and shore rules mean for a Corgi.
Arizona to New Jersey
On a nonstop flight, with a flight nanny. Driving would take about thirty-five hours. Newark Liberty (EWR) takes nonstops from Phoenix Sky Harbor on United and American, roughly four and a half hours in the air, and suits North and Central Jersey. For South Jersey, Philadelphia (PHL) is the better handoff: American flies it nonstop in about the same time, and Cherry Hill is twenty-odd minutes from the terminal. Our delivery page explains every option.
Neither Atlantic City nor Trenton has a nonstop from Phoenix Sky Harbor, so shore families usually land at Philadelphia or Newark and drive. New Jersey is three hours ahead of Arizona during daylight saving time and two hours ahead in winter, so a morning flight lands mid-afternoon, just as the Turnpike and the Parkway start to fill, and we look for an arrival that gets you home ahead of the worst of it. Travel is quoted once a puppy is reserved, separately from what a puppy costs.

Camden, Burlington and Gloucester counties, and most of the southern shore, are closer to PHL. The airport sits just across the Delaware, so the bridge you take home matters more than the miles.
A USDA certified driver brings the puppy over two to three days, with photo updates on the way. It suits Sussex County, the Pine Barrens and anyone who would rather skip an airport run entirely.
If you would rather meet us, fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor. We bring the puppy to the airport, and you take it home yourself.

Drive times
Rough times in normal traffic. On summer Fridays the shore routes, and on any weekday the Turnpike at rush hour, can add a good deal to these.

Corgi life in New Jersey
New Jersey packs city, suburb, pine forest and beach into a small state, and a short-legged herding dog meets a different set of challenges in each.
Hoboken and Jersey City mean brownstone walk-ups, high-rises with pet policies and a lot of pavement. Carry a young Corgi on stairs, check the building's weight limit against a grown dog, and expect sidewalks to be heavily salted in winter. The towns' dog runs and the riverfront walkways make up for the missing yard.
Bergen, Morris and Sussex counties mix older colonials, split-levels and townhouse developments, many built on several short flights of stairs. A Corgi will race up and down them all day if you let it, so gate them for a puppy. The northwest corner, toward the Delaware Water Gap, is wooded, hilly and tick-heavy, and gets more snow than the rest of the state.
Sandy trails, scrub pine, blueberry fields and several kinds of ticks, lone star ticks among them. South Jersey summers are long and humid, so walks happen early and late. Exposed sand on an unshaded trail can burn puppy pads by midday, so test it with your hand first.
Every beach town sets its own rules, and many keep dogs off the sand during the summer season, so check the town before you load the car. Off season, a Corgi on a cool, empty beach is a happy dog. Rinse the salt and sand out of that thick coat afterward, or it will itch for days.
Worth knowing
New Jersey law requires dogs seven months and older to be licensed every year through your town, with proof of a rabies vaccination that covers most of the license year. Towns set their own deadlines, so call the municipal clerk the week your puppy arrives.
The Asian longhorned tick was first identified in the United States on a New Jersey farm in 2017, and it now shares the state with deer ticks and lone star ticks. A dog this low brushes through every patch of tall grass, so ask your vet about prevention at the first visit.
Many townhouse communities and condos set pet limits, leash rules for common areas and limits on fencing. Read them before you reserve a puppy. Barking complaints travel fast through shared walls, and Corgis are talkers, so start teaching a quiet cue in the first week.
A strong nor'easter can snarl Newark flights and the Parkway on the same afternoon. If one is forecast for your delivery date, we pause and reschedule rather than send a puppy into it, so keep the week around your date a little flexible in winter.
Living with a Corgi
Two walks a day, a short training session and something to chase, even if it is only a ball, keep a Corgi content. New Jersey's county parks and rail trails make that easy, and the mild spring and fall are the best seasons for longer outings. Winter is short on daylight and summer is muggy, so the hard months come at both ends of the year. Keep the dog lean through both, because a long back does best without extra weight. Our Corgi care guide covers feeding.
The double coat handles a Jersey winter easily and needs more help in the humid summers, when damp undercoat can stay wet against the skin after a swim or a storm. Towel or blow-dry it properly, brush weekly and daily during the spring and fall sheds, and never shave it. From June to September, walk in the early morning and keep the dog off hot sand and blacktop at midday. The grooming guide shows how.
New Jersey questions
Draw a rough line across the state at Trenton. North of it, Newark is usually closer; south of it, Philadelphia usually wins, and around Toms River the two are close to even, so we compare the drive for your street. Both airports take nonstops from Phoenix, so either way the puppy flies straight through without changing planes.
It depends on the town and the season. Many shore towns ban dogs from the beach in summer and allow them in the off season, and rules can differ from one block of beach to the next. Check before you go, bring fresh water, and rinse the coat afterward. Keep a young puppy off busy beaches until your vet clears it.
Often, yes. Corgis are sturdy, playful and affectionate, and our puppies grow up in a home with children, dogs and cats. The thing to manage is herding: a Corgi may nip at running feet. Redirect it to a toy, teach the children to stop and stand still, and supervise play for the first few months.
Yes, with ground transport. A USDA certified provider brings the puppy to your door over two to three days and sends photo updates on the way. It is a good fit for families far from Newark or Philadelphia, or anyone who would rather avoid an airport run with a new puppy. Like the other options, it is arranged after you reserve and priced on its own.
