From Casa Grande to Texas
How a puppy gets
to Texas.
Our puppies are raised in Casa Grande, about an hour from Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). For Texas families the usual airports are Austin (AUS), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Houston (IAH and HOU) and San Antonio (SAT). A nonstop flight from Phoenix takes about two to two and three-quarter hours. By road it is about fourteen hours to Austin, fifteen to Dallas and seventeen to Houston along I-10.
Texas is close enough that some families drive to Casa Grande, especially from El Paso and West Texas. For Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio a flight is usually easier, and every major Texas city has nonstop service from Phoenix.
Both Arizona and Texas are very hot in summer, so we plan morning flights, a short handoff, and a cooled car waiting at the curb.

Settling in
What about the first
week at home?
Texas heat at your end is much like Arizona heat at ours, so the routine is familiar: early walks, late walks, nothing much in between for the first fortnight. Check the pavement with your hand before you put a puppy on it.
Keep the food the same for a week or two and start small with the space. A crate near the family beats the run of a big house, and it makes the house training far quicker than it would otherwise be.
Texas families reach us from Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, El Paso, Arlington, Plano, Corpus Christi and Lubbock, and El Paso is close enough that some of them drive.
