From Casa Grande to Virginia
How a puppy gets
to Virginia.
Our puppies are raised in Casa Grande, about an hour from Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). For Virginia families the usual airports are Washington Dulles (IAD) and Reagan National (DCA) for Northern Virginia, plus Richmond (RIC) and Norfolk (ORF). A nonstop flight from Phoenix takes about four and a quarter hours to the Washington airports. By road it is about thirty-three hours to Richmond.
Northern Virginia families have the easiest route, with nonstop flights from Phoenix to both Dulles and Reagan National. Richmond and Hampton Roads often involve a connection, so we compare that against a drive from the Washington airports.
Traffic around Washington can stretch the trip home, so we plan the handoff for a quieter part of the day when we can.

they are home?
Whether your puppy came by road or by air, the first evening should be dull on purpose. One room, the same food they have been eating, and introductions to the wider family spread over a few days rather than all at the door.
Virginia summers are humid enough to matter, so early and late for the first couple of weeks, and keep the water bowl full and in one predictable place.
