We raise our puppies in Casa Grande, Arizona, and they travel to Michigan by air. Every puppy is $850, and travel is quoted separately once a puppy is reserved.
The honest answer
Why Michigan is a flight,
not a drive.
Thirty hours of interstate separates us from Detroit. Nobody is doing that with a nine-week-old puppy in the back. The nonstop is about four hours, and Detroit runs enough of them through the day that we can usually pick a landing time rather than accept one.
Detroit covers the southeast of the state easily. From Grand Rapids west and north, GRR is often the shorter day, though its nonstop service is thinner and shifts with the season. That one is worth raising with us early rather than assuming either way.

Three ways a puppy

Ground transport across the Midwest
Two to three days by road with updates along the way. For some winter dates this is the more predictable option, not the less.
Meeting the flight in Green Bay
Odd on paper, sensible for the Upper Peninsula. For plenty of UP towns it is a shorter and safer drive home than coming down to Detroit.

What catches
Michigan families out?
Lake-effect snow, which has very little to do with the statewide forecast. It can bury a road on the west side while Detroit sits under clear skies. From December we keep a spare day in the plan and aim to land in daylight, and we will move a date without being asked if the drive home looks unpleasant.
If you are up in the Peninsula, tell us at the start rather than at the booking. The right airport for Marquette is not the right airport for Monroe, and we would rather work that out before there is a flight to change.
Last one, and it sounds trivial until you are doing it: park and walk in. A handover at the kerb with a queue building behind you is a bad first five minutes for a puppy.

Your town, the month you are hoping for, and an honest picture of the household. A $300 holding deposit reserves a puppy once we agree the match works, and it comes off the $850.
Route planning happens afterwards. A January arrival and a June arrival are different problems and we would rather solve the real one.
Settling in
What does the first
week look like?
In winter the car matters as much as the flight. Warm it before you go into the terminal, bring a blanket for the crate, and do not stand about outside doing introductions in the car park. Get home, then meet everyone.
Keep the food the same for the first week or two, and give them a small space rather than the whole house. Michigan puppies tend to sleep hard the first night, which is usually the best night of sleep a new owner gets for a while.
We hear from families in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Warren, Sterling Heights, Kalamazoo, Flint and Traverse City, and from further north when the drive is planned properly.
