Flight nanny into Kansas City or St. Louis
A flight nanny we trust carries your puppy in the cabin and hands it over at the airport. With a flight this short, most puppies arrive alert and ready for the drive home.

We raise Pembroke Welsh Corgis in our home in Casa Grande, Arizona, and Missouri is one of the shortest flights east from Phoenix. Here is how a puppy reaches your side of the state, and what Missouri's summers, ticks and ice storms mean for a Corgi.
Getting here
Phoenix Sky Harbor, about an hour from our home, has nonstops to both Kansas City (MCI) and St. Louis (STL) several times a day. The flight is about two and a half hours to Kansas City and close to three to St. Louis. By road it is about 1,250 miles to Kansas City, a long two days, which puts Missouri within easy reach of ground transport too. Missouri is on Central time, two hours ahead of Arizona in summer and one in winter.
The two airports sit about four hours apart at opposite ends of I-70, so the right one depends on where you live. West of Columbia, Kansas City is usually the shorter day; east of it, St. Louis. Springfield-Branson (SGF) has had only a short summer season of weekly nonstops from Phoenix, so for the Ozarks we usually compare a Kansas City landing with ground transport.
Phoenix summers are hotter still than Missouri's, so from June to September we book early flights and keep the handoff short. Airline heat rules for the cargo hold never touch our puppies, which ride in the cabin. Spring storms and winter ice can move a date too. If the weather is not safe at either end, delivery is paused or rescheduled. Travel is quoted separately after you reserve; the delivery page shows how each option works.

Missouri is close enough for road travel to be a genuine first choice, especially for the Ozarks and small towns far from an airport. A USDA certified provider takes two to three days and sends photos as they go.
With nonstops of under three hours, you can fly to Phoenix Sky Harbor, meet us and the puppy at the airport, and fly home with it under the seat in front of you.
If you are coming to Arizona anyway, you can collect at our home and see where the puppy was raised, then either fly home from Phoenix or split the drive into easy days with plenty of cool stops.

Drive times
Rough times with clear roads. Kansas City's airport sits well north of downtown, so the southern suburbs take longer than the map suggests.

Across the state
Missouri sits where the South, the Midwest and the Plains meet, so a Corgi here gets real summers and real winters.
Suburbs with yards suit a Corgi well, though many HOAs limit fence height and style. Summers bring strong sun and humid heat, and winters bring snow, ice and wind chills well below freezing. If you use parks on the Kansas side of the metro, check their rules too.
Forest Park, larger than New York's Central Park, is the city's great dog walk, with leashed dogs welcome on its paths. Many older St. Louis homes are brick two-family flats and houses with steep staircases and narrow basement steps, so a gate and a habit of carrying the puppy protect a long back.
Springfield, Branson and the Lake of the Ozarks are hill country with lakes, woods and rocky trails, wonderful for a Corgi that likes to explore and prime tick country in the warm months. The lakes also draw dogs onto docks and boats. A Corgi's heavy chest and short legs make it a weak swimmer, so buy a dog life jacket early.
The Katy Trail crosses the middle of the state on an old rail bed and welcomes leashed dogs, with an even surface that is easy on short legs. College towns mean plenty of apartments, so check pet rules and stairs before you sign a lease. Out in the farm country north of the Missouri River, long grass brings chiggers in summer.
Worth knowing
Missouri has some of the highest ehrlichiosis risk in the country, for dogs as well as people, and the lone star tick is common statewide. A Corgi's belly brushes every tuft of grass on a walk. Keep tick prevention going as your vet advises, check armpits, belly and toes after walks, and report any lethargy or fever quickly.
From late spring until the first hard frost, chiggers live in tall grass and brush across Missouri. They bite dogs too, usually on the belly, legs and ears, which on a Corgi are the parts closest to the grass. Keep the yard mowed and stick to mown paths on summer walks.
Spring brings tornado warnings to most of Missouri, and when the sirens sound you have minutes to reach the basement. A puppy that already knows its crate is easy to carry down. Keep a spare crate, a leash and water where you shelter, and practice the trip once before you need it.
Warm, still lake coves and farm ponds can grow harmful blue-green algae, and the toxins can make a dog seriously ill. A Corgi that swims or drinks at the edge, then licks its coat, is exposed twice. Skip water that looks scummy or like spilled green paint, and rinse your dog with clean water after any lake swim.
Through the year
Spring and fall are perfect for long walks and training. Summer heat, often in the 90s with heavy humidity, means walks at dawn and dusk and a cool house in between, with a hand on the pavement before every summer walk. Winter is easy on a double coat, but road salt and ice melt sting paws, so wipe feet after walks and use a pet-safe melt on your own steps.
Weight is the thing to watch at both extremes: walks shrink in a muggy August and again in an icy January, and a Corgi's appetite does not. Measure food, cut back when exercise drops, and use indoor training games on bad-weather days. The undercoat sheds hardest in spring and fall, so brush to the skin weekly and more often while it is blowing its coat. Our Corgi care guide covers feeding and exercise.
Missouri questions
Pick the one closer to home. Kansas City suits the western half of the state, St. Joseph and the route down to Joplin; St. Louis suits the eastern half, St. Charles and the road south to Cape Girardeau. Columbia is about two hours from either, so there we choose by flight times. Booking the far airport to save on a ticket usually costs hours on I-70 with a tired puppy.
Yes, and the short nonstops make Missouri one of the easier states to do it from. You fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor, we bring the puppy to meet you, and you fly home with it in an airline-approved soft carrier under the seat. Reserve the in-cabin pet spot when you book, and choose a nonstop for the return.
Often, yes. The puppy comes by road over two to three days and is handed over close to home, so nobody has to drive to Kansas City or St. Louis. In July and August, and during winter ice storms, the trip is timed around the weather and paused or rescheduled if conditions are not safe.
The parents are screened for Degenerative Myelopathy, hip health, CAER eyes, PRA and vWD1, and we will go through the testing for any puppy you are considering. Each puppy goes home with a veterinary exam, age appropriate vaccines, deworming, health records, food and a written one year health guarantee, plus our support by phone and email for life.
