Corgi puppies for sale
in Indiana.

Our Pembroke Welsh Corgis grow up in a family home in Casa Grande, Arizona, and a nonstop into Indianapolis brings one to Indiana in about three and a half hours. Here is how to plan the flight, the drive and the clock, and what Indiana weather asks of a Corgi.

Arizona to Indiana

What is the quickest way to bring a Corgi puppy to Indiana?

Fly. The road from our door to Indianapolis is roughly 1,750 miles and twenty-six hours, while the nonstop from Phoenix Sky Harbor to Indianapolis International (IND) takes about three and a half, with American and Southwest both on the route. IND sits on the southwest side of the city, so most of central Indiana is an hour or so from the handoff and nearly all of the state is within three. Travel is quoted on its own, apart from what a puppy costs, and our delivery page walks through each option.

The corners of the state have their own answers. Northwest Indiana is closer to Chicago Midway (MDW) or O'Hare (ORD), the Evansville area can use Louisville (SDF), and the southeast corner sits near Cincinnati (CVG), all with nonstops from Phoenix. The clock is the other wrinkle: 80 counties keep Eastern time, six around Gary and six around Evansville keep Central, and Arizona never changes its clocks. Depending on your county and the season, you are one, two or three hours ahead of us, so we put the landing time in your local time, in writing.

Flight nanny into Indianapolis

The usual plan. A nanny we trust carries the puppy in the cabin, never in the hold, and meets you at IND. Indianapolis has a single terminal, so there is no guessing which building to drive to.

Chicago for the Region

Lake and Porter County families are usually closer to Midway than to Indianapolis. South Bend families can use Chicago too, about an hour and a half from Midway, but remember that South Bend keeps Eastern time while Chicago is on Central.

Louisville for southern Indiana

Clark and Floyd counties sit just across the Ohio River from Louisville, and Evansville is about two hours from it, which can beat the drive up from Indianapolis. Southwest flies Phoenix to Louisville nonstop.

Ground transport, or pickup in Arizona

A USDA certified driver can bring the puppy to your door over two to three days, with photo updates. Or fly to Phoenix yourself: we bring the puppy to Sky Harbor and you take it home.

Drive times

How long is the drive home from the Indianapolis airport?

Rough times from IND with ordinary traffic. Construction season on I-65 and I-69 can add to them, and blowing snow across open farmland can add more in winter.

Corgi life in Indiana

What is it like to own a Corgi in different parts of Indiana?

Indiana is mostly flat, green and humid, with real winters in the north and long, sticky summers in the south. A double-coated herding dog handles most of it well if you plan around the heat and the ticks.

Indianapolis and its suburbs

The northern suburbs are full of newer subdivisions, and many HOAs set rules on fences, so check before you count on a fenced yard for a dog that chases anything that moves. The Monon Trail, a paved rail trail running north from Indianapolis through Carmel, makes a good leashed walk, and a busy one, which is useful socialization for a young dog.

The Region and the lakeshore

Lake Michigan sends lake-effect snow over the northern counties, and South Bend and La Porte can get far more of it than Indianapolis. Indiana Dunes National Park allows leashed dogs on most of its trails and beaches, apart from the summer swim area at West Beach. The neighboring state park is stricter about dogs on the beach, so check before you go.

Farm country in the middle

Much of Indiana is corn and soybean ground, and a Corgi on an acreage will try to herd whatever it finds: chickens, goats, the barn cat. Keep a new puppy away from livestock until its recall is reliable. Farm ponds in late summer can carry blue-green algae, so a hot dog should drink from your bowl, not the pond.

Southern Indiana's hills

Brown County and the Hoosier National Forest are the state's real hill country, and their woods hold plenty of ticks from spring into fall. Summers are humid, so the long walk happens early. Bloomington's older houses and porches come with steps, so carry a young puppy and add a ramp where you can.

Worth knowing

What surprises new Corgi owners in Indiana?

Crossing a time zone to meet the flight

A South Bend family meeting a flight at Midway steps into Central time for the afternoon, and an Evansville family driving to Indianapolis steps into Eastern. Read the arrival time in the airport's local time, and let us confirm it before you leave home.

July heat on blacktop

Asphalt driveways and parking lots get hot enough to hurt puppy pads on an Indiana summer afternoon. Hold the back of your hand on the surface for a few seconds; if you cannot, walk on grass or wait for evening. A thick coat in high humidity overheats faster than people expect.

Ticks at Corgi height

Ticks are active across Indiana from spring into fall, and a dog this low brushes every blade of tall grass at exactly tick height. Ask your vet about prevention at the first visit, and check the chest, armpits and ears after walks along field edges.

Herding the kids

Pembrokes were bred to move cattle by nipping at heels, and in a busy family a puppy may try the same on running children. It is instinct, not aggression, but it needs redirecting from the first week. Our puppy training guide explains how.

Living with a Corgi

What does a good Corgi routine look like in Indiana?

Plan exercise by the season. From May to September, Indiana's humidity makes the hour after sunrise the best time for a long walk and the evening the time for a second. In winter the trouble runs the other way: gray days and icy sidewalks, especially in the north, and a Corgi with nothing to do puts on weight fast. Keep it lean so the long back carries less. You should feel the ribs under a thin layer, and if you cannot, cut the treats before you cut the walks.

The double coat sheds all year and blows out heavily in spring and fall, right when Indiana's weather swings hardest. Brush through the undercoat a few times a week, more during a shed, and bathe sparingly so the coat keeps its weather resistance. After a wet walk, towel the belly and the thick fur on the back legs, which can stay damp for hours. The grooming guide goes through it step by step.

Indiana questions

Questions from Indiana families

Which airport should we meet the flight at in Indiana?

For most of the state, Indianapolis. It takes the nonstop from Phoenix and sits within about three hours of nearly everywhere. The exceptions are the corners: Lake and Porter counties are usually better served by Chicago Midway, Clark and Floyd counties by Louisville, and the southeast corner by Cincinnati. Tell us your town and we will compare the drives.

Can a Corgi live in an Indianapolis apartment?

Yes, as long as it gets out. A Corgi needs two good walks and some training every day far more than it needs a yard. A ground floor or an elevator helps, because a long-backed puppy should be carried on stairs. Check the lease for weight limits: a grown Pembroke is usually under 30 pounds, which clears many but not all of them.

How do northern Indiana winters affect a Corgi?

The coat copes; the legs struggle. Around South Bend, lake-effect snow can bury the yard, so shovel a potty patch and a short walking loop. Wipe salt off paws and belly after walks. Keep exercise going indoors on the worst days, because a bored Corgi tends to invent its own jobs, and they usually involve the furniture.

Is ground transport realistic for Indiana?

Yes. Indiana is a long but straightforward run for a USDA certified provider, about two to three days door to door, with photo updates along the way. It suits families in small towns that are a long way from Indianapolis, Chicago or Louisville, and anyone who would rather skip the airport. Like a flight, it is planned once a puppy is reserved.
